Paracas

Our experience & things to know

Paracas is a popular weekend and holiday destination for the richer people from Lima. Nice hotels, expensive villas and excellent restaurants come with it. Also, it is not too easy to park your rig but we found a nice spot at the end of the road near KitesurfPeru and enjoyed the kiting for a while. During Semana Santa (Easter) the place became really crowded which motivated us to leave.

Explore the amazing natural reserve of Paracas while you are there or visit Pisco, the town where the famous drink of the same name originates from.

Wind & conditions

Thermal winds generated by the desert make for an enjoyable riding on the well protected bay on mostly flat water. You may also kite in the reserve where there are some wave spots.

Season

The windiest season is typically from September to April but you might find windy days all year round as it is driven by thermals from the surrounding desert.

Where to stay

Plenty of options throughout the town. Parking a rig can be challenging but we left ours just at the end of the road where the reserve begins.

Crowds & infrastructure

As mentioned under "Our experiences" the place can become quite crowded, especially the beaches but less so on the water. The kite school offers all the infrastructure you need, showers, a compressor and drinks and food.

Access

Access is free but you have to pay a day use fee at the kite school in case you use their infrastructure.
